Report your change of address
If you are going to stay in the Netherlands for more than 4 months you need to report your change of address and register with the municipality where you are going to live. You must do this within 5 days of arriving in the Netherlands. Make an appointment at the municipality to do this. When you register, the municipality will arrange:
1) BSN number (for your dealings witht he government and to get
healthcare
2) Registration in the BRP (Personal Records Database) in which all residents of The Netherlands are listed
If you move, you must inform the municipality of your change of address, either in person or in writing. Sometimes, if you’re moving within the same municipality, you can do so online. The new municipality will update your address in the Personal Records Database (BRP).
The following people can inform the municipality of a change of address:
You must inform the municipality of your change of address anywhere between 4 weeks prior to moving and 5 days after moving. The moving date that you provide will be treated as the day on which your address changed. If you inform the municipality more than 5 days after moving, the date on which you inform the
municipality
will be treated as the moving date. Municipalities can impose a fine of up to €325 if you do not inform them in time of important changes to your personal information.

Documents required
You must provide the following documents when informing the municipality of a change of address:
Have you have applied or arranged to receive services in your current municipality and are you now moving elsewhere? If so, you should ask your new municipality about the services that you are eligible for and how you can apply for them.
Services provided under the Social Support Act (WMO) or benefit provided under the Work and Social Assistance Act are not linked to the Personal Records Database (BRP). Each municipality administers these services individually. This means that it is not possible to say which changes will be automatically passed on if you move to a new municipality.
Did you (or your sponsor) receive a letter from the IND to collect your residence document? Then please make an appointment at the IND desk stated in the letter.
It is currently very busy at the IND desks. Almost all dates for making an appointment are occupied. Check the online schedule
regularly
, as dates can become available every day due to cancellations. Bring your passport to your appointment.

For assignments of less than three years, in the current market, it is usually better to rent. Rental costs are fixed, contracts can be ended if you need to go back home, and the headaches of repairs and maintenance are the property owner's responsibility. Also, there is no loss through having to resell before your costs can be covered, nor the hassle of waiting for the property to sell should the market be slow again.
Houses for rent are available in three different states of furnishing: Bare
(kaal)
. There are no carpets, curtains, light fittings, etc., though there probably will be a fitted kitchen. Built-in appliances such as a cooker and possibly a fridge or dishwasher may be present. Soft-furnished (gestoffeerd). The fittings will include everything in the "bare" category, and also carpets and curtains. Furnished (gemeubileerd). Completely furnished - generally including appliances, cutlery, crockery, bed linen, etc.
Estate agents and 'high street' housing agencies manage private rental housing. The rental price for these houses is considerably higher than accommodation found through a municipal housing agency or a housing association, but in general, these houses are available for immediate tenancy.
Although it is probably better to rent for a while before buying a house, the difference in monthly payments can make purchasing an attractive option for those staying longer. The difference comes largely from the fact that (for the time being at least) the Dutch government repays some of the mortgage interest as tax relief.
After a while most expatriates realise that it is more attractive to buy property (real estate) in the Netherlands instead of staying in a rented house or apartment.
